Will I need snow guards with metal roofing?

Snow will accumulate on a metal roof as it would on any other roof.  However, when it begins to melt, the smooth surface of a metal roofing panel can lead to large pieces of snow sliding off of the roof.  In many commercial locations, snow guards have been placed on metal roofing panels.  Snow guards help prevent the accumulated snow from falling in a large chunk.  Instead, the snow melts gradually.  The majority of snow guards are well designed and can enhance the appearance of a metal roof.  If you live in an area with heavy snow fall, they would be a good idea.
